This is a positive song about the resilience and good humour of Canterbury’s children after a year of aftershocks, upheaval and uncertainty.
I’d been relieving at several primary schools around Canterbury and was struck by how well most of the kids were coping with the constant turmoil around them.
Unlike many adults, the children just seemed to roll with it.
So in November 2011, we got together 35 children from four primary schools across Christchurch to rehearse and record the song.
During one lunchtime practice at Sumner, a big aftershock rumbled through, but the children were back singing within seconds – pretty humbling really.
Making the song was a frantic and fantastic experience, and a huge thank you to everyone who was involved.
